AMFN VCA Strategic Workshop

-
AMFN Secretariat, Yaoundé, Cameroon

This workshop explored the Verified Conservation Area (VCA) Registry as an incentive measure to encourage area-based conservation where people live and work - in support of the SDGs and the Aichi Targets. It will specifically look at the role that the VCA approach can play in with the African Model Forest Network (AMFN).

The objectives of the workshop were to:

  1. Build regional interest in the VCA approach across AFMN's partnering country,
  2. Identify existing AMNF forests to be registered now as VCAs, and
  3. Agree on a set of strategic actions for moving forward.

Participants included AMNF representatives from the region who are interested in participating in or supporting a voluntary initiative to recognise and encourage area-based conservation where people live and work.
